Paige Lily Simpson Wine Fundraiser

In October of this year, I am undertaking a 4 day trek through Cradle Mountain with my daughter Emily, her best friend Evie, and a team of inspiring individuals dedicated to raising funds for the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation. My goal is to raise $60,000. We are doing this fundraising in memory of our beautiful Paige. Paige was diagnosed with a brain stem blastoma two weeks after her 18th birthday in 2020. We were shocked but we leaped straight into the action to try and get treatment. The first step was a very tricky surgery to get a biopsy, this confirmed that she was dealing with an aggressive and malignant blastoma, unfortunately, the position made it impossible for the surgeon to remove it. Paige was scheduled for radiation and chemotherapy straight away, unfortunately, these didn’t work. We tried immunotherapy, that didn’t work. We raised money to try Keytruda, this isn’t on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme, so it cost us $6,000 per treatment, after the second Keytruda treatment, her body couldn’t hold off the now fragmented blastoma, it was all through her spine and brain lining, on 12th August 2021, brain cancer took her life. The only good thing about having a terminal illness is getting to spend quality time with your loved ones, and appreciating every second of that time, having conversations to treasure. One of the conversations I had with Paige was about how some people take devastating moments in their lives and turn them into something positive, like Rosie Battie. I told Paige I didn’t think I had that in me, but I would try to do something good in her memory. I have chosen to support the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation because they are doing so much to support research into a cure. Only 22% of people with brain cancer survive past the five year mark, this hasn’t changed for 30 years, the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation is working hard to change that. When we were told that Paige’s blastoma was inoperable and incurable, I didn’t want to believe it, I kept holding on to the hope that a new drug or treatment would be found in time to save her. I don’t want other families to go through this heartache and devastation. Thank you for your help with our fundraiser, we appreciate it and every family who will benefit from the work of the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation also appreciates your generosity.
