History

High toned aromas of ripe fruits such as blood plums and blackberries fill the glass. There’s an undercurrent of more savoury bass notes of black olive and oak char. It is fragrant, expressive and straight forward. Supple with a deliciously earthy twang to its ripe and finely textured tannins.

This family owned vineyard s managed in accordance with sustainable farming practices. The result has the grapes for this dry Riesling growing on low-yielding vines, on the high slopes of the Clare Valley (about 500 metres above sea level).

The fruit was processed in a number of individual parcels, with each block of vines picked as it reached its best ripeness and flavour in the challenging conditions. Each parcel was then fermented separately allowing us to vary winemaking and processing techniques to suit the characteristics of each, and giving us the opportunity to enhance individual highlights, before blending immediately prior to bottling.

On the nose it has lively fresh lime, acacia and linden blossom aromatics.

The palate has tight, stoney minerality with intense lemon drop, citrus flavours.

A refreshing, crisp acidity provides strengh for a dry, lingering finish.

Drink now with fish, seafood or white meat dishes or cellar for up to 10 years.

History

The Barossa has been producing rich full- bodied Shiraz wines for over a century. Our “Premium Unlabeled” release continues this tradition. Located in the South Eastern corner of the Eden Valley, the vineyards were planted in 1858 and continue to impress us by producing small yet concentrated bunches of premium fruit.

Viticulture

Sandy loam and schist ground provide challenging conditions – low nutrients and water holding capacity for the vines to survive – rather than thrive! However over the last three centuries these vines have continued to produce small concentrated bunches of premium fruit.

Baumé reached 14.5 before the fruit was hand-picked and delivered to the winery ready for crushing and fermenting.

Winemaking

Fermented in upright hogsheads with their heads removed for 10-14 days, hand plunging in the morning and again in the evening (pushing the skins down into the fermenting juice) further imparts the precious colour and flavours in to the developing wine. After fermentation the skins were gently basket pressed for further flavour and colour extraction. The wine was then racked to a mixture of new and three year old French and American oak hogsheads. Every six months the wines were racked to tank and returned to oak, slowly removing deposits and assisting with clarity.

Food Ideas

This wine should be declared a food on its own! Will compliment a great piece of fillet steak.

Fruit: 100% Eden Valley Shiraz

Colour: Deep purple

Nose: Belgium chocolate, plum, white pepper, mixed spice

Palate: A explosion of rich concentrated ripe fruits, complex fruit sweetness. Firm yet elegant tannin structure with great length.

Alcohol: 14.6 % Alc Vol

Cellaring: Consume now through to 2029

Notes: This exceptional wine has not been filtered and will develop a crust over time – hence decanting is highly recommended.

Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula is famous for its wines and this Pinot Grigio variety is simply sublime. Fresh and fruity,  subtle, style with a level of delicate complexity that will be appreciated with fine food. Has that slight oiliness and light green tinge you expect from a great Pinot Grigio. Dry with a crisp clean finish.
